In Search of Images
The overriding interest throughout my work is how we inhabit and move through our cultural landscape. The title of this exhibition refers to this constant search for images that exemplify human existence in modern urban environments. The painting process is also as much about actively looking as actually painting.
Urban Munich in its various light and moods has been the primary setting for my work of the last decade. The places are specific to the ‘Metropolis on the Isar’ but the primary subject, the figure in the (urban) landscape, is universal. This solo exhibition is a survey of paintings and drawings of the past 12 years and encompasses several series, including the Cyclists, the Schlachthof Subculture inspired by the sprayer scene in Munich’s meatpacking district and the large-scale drawing installations for the off-space WELTRAUM.
Auf der Suche nach Bildern
Das hauptsächliche Interesse in meiner Kunst ist, wie wir unsere Kulturlandschaft nutzen und uns darin bewegen. Der Titel dieser Ausstellung bezieht sich auf diese ständige Suche nach Bildern, die die menschliche Existenz in modernen, urbanen Umgebungen exemplifizieren. Gleichzeitig ist der Malprozess ebenso ein aktives Schauen wie das tatsächliche Malen.
Das urbane München in seinen verschiedenen Licht- und Stimmungszuständen war der wesentliche Schauplatz für meine Arbeit des letzten Jahrzehnts. Die Orte sind spezifisch für die “Metropole an der Isar”, aber das primäre Thema, die Figur in der (urbanen) Landschaft, ist universell. Diese Einzelausstellung ist ein Rückblick auf Gemälde und Zeichnungen der letzten 12 Jahre und umfasst mehrere Serien, darunter die Cyclists, die Schlachthof-Subkultur, von der Sprayer-Szene im Schlachthofviertel inspiriert, und die großformatigen Zeicheninstallationen für den Off-Space WELTRAUM.
